New Airline Price Disclosure Rules and Automatic Refunds

airlines Last week, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced new rules to protect air travelers from surprise junk fees by requiring upfront disclosure of fees for baggage, and changing/cancelling a reservation. It also requires all-in fare price advertising. In addition, if flights are cancelled, delayed by at least three hours domestically, baggage is significantly delayed, etc., automatic cash refunds (not travel vouchers) must be made automatically. It is not clear, however, if the problem of "drip pricing" where the cost of extras can really boost your fare is really solved.
